The Thang

What can I say.  It is the APFT.

Warm up:

  • Mosey, Prodigal Run style, around the shovel flags (SF) and over to the east porte cochère.
  • Imperial Walkers x12 IC
  • Grass Grabbers x12 IC
  • SSH x12 IC
  • Copperhead Squat x12 IC
  • Mosey, Prodigal Run style, back to the SF.  High knees, butt kickers, and karaoke on the way.
  • Little baby arm circles x12 IC
  • Reverse LBAC x13 IC (YHC lost count)
  • Light Bulbs x13 IC (bonus again)
  • Count off 1 and 2 to make partners for the APFT.

APFT – Pushups:

  • Mosey, Prodigal Run style, back to the SF.  High knees, butt kickers, and karaoke on the way.
  • After brief instructions on form, thanks Hundo for demonstration, partner 1 began the 2 minutes of merkins.  Most of the PAX seemed to hit a wall around 1 minute of merkins.
  • Flapjack partners for 2 minutes of merkins.

APFT – Sit Ups:

  • KFC led the pack to the north church lawn for a softer surface for big boy sit ups (BBSU).
  • After brief instructions on form, thanks Dump Truck for demonstration, partner 1 began 2 minutes of BBSU.
  • YHC failed to respond to The Bishop’s question about start time on Band #Qfail. So Bish and his FNG (to be named Squirrel) arrived around 6:50 during the sit ups.  Bish decided he didn’t need any warm up and went straight into the APFT.  #OldManStrong
  • Flapjack partners for 2 minutes of BBSU
  • Make up round for YHC and others who were busy during the first rounds.

APFT – 2 mile run:

  • We had some leadership discussion on whether to run around the church, or to mosey over to the track at the elementary school.  Right or wrong, we ended up at the church.  Bullseye and KFC think that 4 laps is just a little over 2 miles, so YMMV.
  • Strong work by all the PAX.  We have some excellent runners, who demonstrate the proper pace.  KFC scored 100 on this section!  Nice run by IPA and Hundo.
  • Robin Hood lamented that he didn’t have to run based on the scoring.  YHC disagrees!  As much as I hate running (and I really do), we need to do all three parts every quarter to measure progress.  Keep it up RH, and let’s compare the next 3 APFT results to this one!

Cool Down – 6 minutes of Mary:

  • KFC was unavailable for the cooldown, because Headlock needed car key assistance.  (Where was Locksmith?)
  • Special guest villain, The Bishop,  led cooldown and mary while YHC took ages for the APFT paperwork!


Special thanks to IPA for help with the APFT scoring at coffeteria after.  YHC is impressed about his ability to calculate sums without a smartphone!  The Bishop EH’d a random dude at Minuti.  Maybe we will see him, and his dog Wendy, at a future workout.

Prayers of thanks for Ava being home after chemo, Hundo’s dad doing better #NeverEndingBattle, RH’s job search, and others.   Concluded COT with echo prayer “As Iron, Sharpens Iron, So One Man, Sharpens Another, God First, Other Second, I am Third, Amen”.


Pleasure to lead the APFT.  I need to work on some easier to use paperwork.  I missed much of the workout because I was shuffling papers.  #HomeworkAssignment

Personally, I’m going to focus on running in the next 3 months, to raise my running score from a zero #GooseEgg to at least a 10.  I hate running.  Any suggestions?
